The temperature will rise by 0.5 degrees Celsius in the Arctic." In other words, climate change is inevitable. As Paul Krugman recently observed, "[T]his has been the most dangerous, scary year yet for our economy." As such, even a "consensus" agreement on climate-change mitigation, based on "science," is not a deal to be taken seriously. If we want to move on from the "dismal crisis" of global warming and avoid its collapse into yet another economic and political crisis in the future, we must begin to consider new and better models for the development and analysis of economic, and political, risks that will make it more likely that we will survive as a society.
We cannot begin to prepare in advance for the consequences of climate change by relying exclusively upon the existing scientific knowledge. Instead, we must use that knowledge to guide us in shaping policies that will minimize the consequences of future climate change, and ensure that the economy retains its competitive edge and prosperity. 우리카지노 바카라사이트
Philippine worker recounts hostage drama
A man died Saturday night when an Afghan captive took his hostage at an Army base in the Philippines.
The man was being held in the Army Recruit Depot in Apang on Leyte island, about 90 miles west of Manila, military spokesman Cpl. Jose Maria Navarro said.
The man was an enlisted member of the army and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry of the 24th Infantry Regiment, an outpost in Apang, Navarro said. He's survived by his father and two sisters.
His condition was stabilized Monday.
The hostage situation was complicated after the prisoner's captor came through an open front door at the Recruit Depot to escape to a house in the jungle.
After the man had exited the house, the hostage took him inside the base headquarters building, Navarro said. When that happened, it was not immediately clear where the escape plan was, he added.
There was a brief flash of light before the hostage-taker appeared, the statement said. It did not elaborate.
The situation quickly escalated.
About 11:30 a.m. local time, the Army sent a message to soldiers with information about what was going on from a helicopter and asked them to seek shelter in the nearby community of Cajon City, Navarro said.
About 10:45 a.m. local time, one of the captives died. No one else was injured.
The man was described as being in his early 20s, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and with a thin build.
The Army said the man worked as a contractor and had a wife and two children with him.
The Philippine National Police will conduct an investigation into what happened.
