[br] [br] [br]Challenges arise in providing reliable touch performance in devices when the touch sensor is subjected to[br]large amounts of noise from sources such as displays and chargers. This noise can corrupt reported touch data, degrading the performance and reliability of the device. Today’s touch-screen controllers use a variety of features to boost SNR and provide a seamless user experience amidst the noisy environment.[br][br]As touch-screen based devices continue to get thinner, different sources of noise become more problematic to address. Noise can substantially impact the reliability of touch-screen performance and lead to undesirable product returns because of the following issues:[br][br]Higher jitter leads to variability in the location reported for a stationary fingerFalse touches are reported when there is no finger on the screenThere is no reported touch when a finger is touching the screenThe device completely locks up[br][br]Thus, reliability, performance, and the quality of user experience are significantly affected by how the system addresses noise. While some noise is environmental – including radio signals, AC mains, and even fluorescent lights – there are several internal sources that influence performance, accuracy, and reliability on a larger scale. These include common-mode noise from chargers and noise generated from a display such as an LCD.[br][br]
